III. Catalog Course Description

Introduces the fundamentals of fluid power. Students will learn the basics of hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, power units and actuators. Hydraulic theory and concepts will be explored as they apply to the heavy equipment and AG industries.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • 1. properly diagnose and repair HVAC, engine & fuel, steering & suspension, electrical & electronic, hydraulic, and powertrain systems as well as preventative maintenance in Ag and construction equipment.
  • 2. meet or exceed the overall average score in the NOCTI evaluation for HVAC, engine & fuel, steering & suspension, electrical & electronic, hydraulic, and powertrain systems as well as preventative maintenance
  • 3. meet NATEF standards in HVAC, engine & fuel, steering & suspension, electrical & electronic, hydraulic, and powertrain systems
  • 4. improve scores from pre-test (in semester one) to post-test (in semester 3) in all areas: HVAC, engine & fuel, steering & suspension, electrical & electronic, hydraulic, and powertrain systems as well as preventative maintenance
  • 5. adequately prepare themselves for employment in the heavy equipment and ag industry
