This course introduces techniques and procedures of heat detection, semen handling, and artificial insemination of cattle.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Properly handle frozen semen during thawing process
  • Inseminate cattle
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the legal requirements of AI technicians in the State of Idaho
  • Use EPDs/ PTAs to select appropriate breeding stock
  • Describe how to synchronize estrous cycles of cattle for purposes of breeding and embryo transfer
  • Visually identify estrus in cattle
