Program Overview:

Water Resource Management is specifically intended for people who desire employment involving water quality, measurement, regulation and application. Career options are most abundant in municipal and industrial wastewater management. Specific courses are offered to assist students who desire to sit for the Idaho operator-in-training (OIT) exam. Graduates are also qualified for a variety of local, state, and federal positions with agencies such as IDWR, DEQ, BLM, and Forest Service. Internships are often available at these agencies so students can obtain first-hand experience in the interested field.

Program Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Water Resource Management program, a student will be able to:

  1. Perform open channel, closed conduit, and theoretical water measurement techniques.
  2. Demonstrate fundamental water quality sampling techniques with industry-adopted instrumentation and protocols.
  3. Apply state and federal laws pertaining to water allocation, distribution, and quality.
  4. Indicate different irrigation planning methods and water application methods for given soil and field conditions.
  5. Summarize in detail the role of the soil-water interactions and the importance of soil in the water system.
  6. Identify various water delivery and conveyance systems.
  7. Utilize mapping tools, such as GIS & GPS, to evaluate and inventory watersheds.
  8. Evaluate the impacts and interactions of human and biological factors on the water system.
