POE-335 International Law

This course examines the nature of international law including its sources, scope, and effectiveness in a world of sovereign states and international organizations. Focused attention is placed on the general relationship of international law to diplomacy, human security, human rights, and the global environment. Using a case study approach, students will explore questions on topics such as extraterritoriality, war crimes, genocide, refugees, the law of the sea, and governance of the environmental commons.
