Art and Design Minor

The goal of the Art and Design Minor is to supply students with sufficient grounding in the visual arts to allow them to develop their artistic skills and interests further, if they should decide to do so.

The Ways of Seeing course will introduce students to the wide variety of cultural contexts in which images are produced, and the range of styles in which they can be fashioned. This will be complemented by an introductory course covering any one of the following three areas: two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or digital media. Together, the two foundational courses will help students decide on which path they would like to take through the intermediate or upper-level studio courses. The studio courses will be supplemented by at least one art history course which will introduce students to some of the multiple historical contexts in which art has been made, the many uses to which art has been put, and the variety of methodologies that have been employed to understand artistic production and consumption.
