NURS 3020 FOUNDATIONS OF TRANSCULTURAL CARE
An introduction to concepts and theories relevant to healthcare for diverse populations. Diversity is examined relative to social organization, roles and examinations, communication patterns and values/beliefs underlying health-illness behaviors between Western and non-western cultures. Emphasis on development of knowledge and skills in culturally congruent communication and cultural assessment. Comparative approach to global healthcare by understanding similarities and differences among commonly encountered diverse population groups. In addition, to the multiple dimensions of social determinants of health including: cultural, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, age, gender equity, sexual orientation, and religion/spirituality.
