TECH4430 ULTRASONIC TESTING I

Principles and practices governing the use of ultrasonic pulse-echo and through-transmission techniques in the inspection and characterization of materials and structures. Both straight beam and angle beam contact testing emphasized. Major topics include the principles of ultrasound generation,propagation and detection, ultrasonic test equipment, ultrasonic test techniques, design and use of calibration standards. Student laboratory exercises supplement and reinforce classroom lectures and demonstrations. Certificate issued to student upon the successful completion of the course is currently found to be acceptable evidence of meeting the general requirement for Level II certification in accordance with ASNT-TC 1 a recommended practices. Course also serves as preparation for ASNT Level 111 General Examination.
