DENH 101C Dental Hygiene Clinic 1
This course is taken in conjunction with DENH 101. Clinical dental hygiene will be focused on developing the skills necessary for delivery of preventive, educational and therapeutic service to the public. In this course students will learn the proceeded of comprehensive care, assessment of patient needs, formulation of a dental hygiene care and planning for the prevention and treatment of oral disease.

III. Catalog Course Description
This course is taken in conjunction with DENH 101. Clinical dental hygiene will be focused on developing the skills necessary for delivery of preventive, educational and therapeutic service to the public. In this course students will learn the proceeded of comprehensive care, assessment of patient needs, formulation of a dental hygiene care and planning for the prevention and treatment of oral disease.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Perform selected services of dental hygiene care on a laboratory manikin or student partner. Assess the need and perform methods to promote and maintain student oral health. Interview students and a patient and record accurately the Medical History and vital signs. Document gingival assessment, recession, furcation, mobility and pathology. Assess the need for exposure, development, evaluation and interpretation of dental radiographs.
- Demonstrate proper grasp and fulcrum of instrumentation and demonstrate probing, exploration and instrumentation adaptation, angulation and insertion of all instruments • Demonstrate progress in detection of hard deposits • Demonstrate working and exploratory strokes • Demonstrates removal of extrinsic stains with no tissue trauma
- Planning of Dental Hygiene Care: • Formulate patient assessment findings and risk factors • Synthesis into a treatment plan and case presentations • Include goals of patient • Oral health analysis • Discuss preventative and therapeutic services • Plan appointments and sequence of health services • Obtain and understand informed consent
- Dental Hygiene Modalities: Discuss and apply principles of instrumentation – design and application
- Dental Records: Apply principles of accurate records through documentation • Proposed DHCPlans • Recommend supportive care • Referral assessments • Re-evaluation of patient oral Health Discuss patient surveys and Patient satisfaction
- Demonstrate appropriate barriers and disinfection of the dental unit and light • Use infection control and hazard management during dental hygiene services • Select and use methods of infection control and disinfection
- Name and locate all parts of the Dental Unit and Practice and demonstrate proper patient positioning.
