This lab accompanies the lecture, applying and reinforcing lesson topics through hands on experience and field trips.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the use and calibration of different types of water quality monitoring instruments including pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and turbidity.
  • Use portable test kits to perform laboratory procedures for water quality screening and analysis.
  • Test for microbiological indicators of water quality.
  • Correctly sample, preserve, and ship water samples from both groundwater and surface water sources to laboratories for a variety of analysis.
  • Demonstrate safe laboratory practices when analyzing samples.
