Students study the common diseases and disorders of patients and the appropriate nursing measures (physical, emotional, and psychological) these varied conditions require. The nursing process is utilized as a basis for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a patient's needs. This includes meeting the needs of a dying patient and their family. Patient teaching on health, learning to live with various conditions, and rehabilitation nursing are included. The setting is acute care. Clinical experiences include patients in all age groups. Emphasis is placed on the elderly population.

III. Catalog Course Description

Explain the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, medical management, and prognosis of common muscular/skeletal, urinary, male reproductive, mental health, neurological, gastrointestinal, skin/burn and eye/ear disorders, as well as associated assessments, diagnostic tests, and nursing interventions.
  • B. Expand on the LPN’s role and responsibilities with respect to the diseases and disorders covered.
  • C. Describe the benefits and complexities of appropriate patient teaching.
