Program Overview:
The Horticulture program will provide students with practical hands-on horticulture skills and applied theory in classroom and laboratory settings. The lab settings will include the CSI campus, greenhouse and property owned and managed by the College. Students in this program can earn a Technical Certificate, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, or an Associate of Applied Science. Students will be able to transfer to a university Horticulture program and complete a bachelor’s degree.

Program Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the Horticultureprogram, a student will be able to:
- Identify 200 or more plant species by botanical name.
- Recommend appropriate plants for a variety of landscape conditions.
- Diagnose & prescribe treatment for common pest, disease, and physiological symptoms found among ornamental plants.
- Demonstrate pruning practices to improve structure, health, and function of trees.
- Employ safe & appropriate use of standard landscape maintenance tools & equipment.
- Explain the process and order of landscape installation from planning to planting and describe the importance of proper planning.
- Identify and explain how different environmental factors effect plant growth.
- Construct and solve growth and operational calculations related to greenhouse management, nursery production, and landscape construction costs.
- Analyze, evaluate, and interpret landscape elements, spaces and designs and develop critical, evidence-based perspectives about them.
- Employ retail sales and presentation skills related to customer/client relationships.
