PHIL-3012 Philosophy of Science
(TEXTS & CONTEXTS, SCIENCE & SOCIETY) This is a survey course on the philosophy of science. Topics may include: Does moral psychology have a say in what ethics is correct? What constitutes a paradigm shift in science? How should scientists adjudicate empirically equivalent theories, such as theories of quantum mechanics? What is a law of nature, and do they shape the world or merely summarize patterns? In light of contemporary physics, what is the nature of time, and do we have free will?
