Program Description: A student in the Chemical Engineering Technology program will develop a basic foundation in chemical techniques, mathematics, liberal arts, and use of computers. Courses in chemistry, analytical chemistry, and quantitative analysis will provide techniques and knowledge for success in a career as a technician. Protocols, safety, and quality control will be emphasized throughout the program. Graduates could be employed in a number of fields including governmental organizations, research labs, environmental labs, quality control, and chemical production. Employment of science (chemical) technicians is projected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations, although employment change will vary by specialty.
Employment Opportunities: Chemical technicians find a wide variety of employment opportunities in government laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing facilities, quality control laboratories, and environmental and research laboratories. The actual job duties are varied and include operating facilities, equipment, and instruments; analyzing plant materials to ensure quality and safety; synthesis and purification of chemicals including pharmaceuticals, and performing assigned experiments in a research setting.
